Home inspection changes the ladder equation. A homeowner may move a ladder twice a year. An inspector can unload, carry, set up, collapse, and reload one at several properties in a day. Stored size and carry weight are not convenience trivia; they shape whether the ladder remains a useful part of the route.
That does not make compactness the first safety requirement. The ladder still has to reach the work without standing above the labeled limit, support the person plus clothing and equipment, sit correctly on the available surface, and match any workplace rules that apply. Why no bargain no-name pick? A daily-use inspection ladder needs traceable instructions, understandable lock indicators, clear duty and standing limits, and a manufacturer that publishes model-specific information. A low purchase price cannot compensate for missing decision-critical information.
Do the carry and load math
The full-load example

Know where this category stops fitting
